Teaching Internet Safety

You are responsible for teaching internet safety to your kids. This is something that parents of the past did not have to worry about. Obviously, this was because the internet did not exist. In today’s day and age every child should begin to use the internet at an early age; there is no debating this.

Here are three tips for teaching internet safety:

1. Have an outline of what you want to touch on. You don’t need to write down every last detail, but at least have an idea of what you are interested in talking about. This can and probably will change as you move forward, and there is nothing wrong with that. An outline is meant to be nothing more than a simple guide.

2. Ask questions. You should ask questions as you go along. Do you understand the difference between a safe and unsafe site? What will you do if somebody you do not know contacts you? These are the types of questions to ask your child when teaching internet safety.

3. Encourage questions. Don’t be the only one asking questions. You should encourage your child to speak up and ask anything that is on their mind. This is one of the most important facets of teaching internet safety. You don’t want to lecture your child. Instead, get them involved by letting them ask questions.

These three tips should make it easy on you when teaching internet safety. Believe it or not, this can be educational and fun at the same time.

Internet Safety Tips for Kids

As a child you need to know what will keep you safe when browsing the internet. Parents should also be helping in this regard. Remember, the internet is full of both good and bad. There are some websites that are perfect for kids, as well as those that have nothing to offer. To go along with this, internet safety also has a lot to do with who kids speak with online.

Here are a few internet safety tips for kids to keep in mind:

1. Don’t talk to strangers. This is something that you have probably heard your parents say time after time. It is true in person, as well as online. You never want to talk with people you do not know.

2. Never share your personal contact information. This is one of the most important internet safety tips for kids. You should keep all your personal information to yourself including phone numbers, addresses, school info, email, and much more. If you do not know the person there is no reason to give them this information.

3. Ask if you are unsure of what you are doing. If you do not know if you should be doing something online it is best to ask an adult before moving forward. Once you clear something through your parents you can be 100 percent sure that you are doing the right thing.

These three internet safety tips for kids are very important to keep in mind. As a child they can help you stay safe. As a parent they can help you better take care of your kids.
